Abstinence

First of all, I want to say that people who aren't abstinent or a virgin should not feel bad! This post wasn't made for you to feel bad about yourself. I made this post because I'm fed up with people saying that abstinence isn't real or obtainable (Bristal Palin). I am a young adult, abstinent, and plan on being a virgin until I'm married. So, technically, I'm proof that abstinence is real and so are thousands of other teens in America (I don't know the exact statistics). I've talked with some of my friends, cousins, and other girls I know about this kind of stuff. Only one of them wasn't a virgin and most were abstinent like I am. I know what you're thinking 'They're probably girls from a church or female empowerment group.', but they're not. They're ordinary young adult and teen girls that I know from various places, I don't even go to female empowerment groups. They are girls from different paths in life and some had different religions than mine. I, myself, am a proud Christian. And, even if abstinence wasn't a sin, I'd still want to save myself for the man I would marry instead of some John Doe I'd forget about down the line or regret. And where the hell did this rumor that not having sex after you're eighteen would damage your sex drive come from? That's just a lie made up by a teenager who needed an excuse. Come on, people....

Using a celebrity example of abstinence, I'll use Kevin Jonas.

I've always wondered about Joe, but I believe Nick is a virgin and Kevin was a virgin (go, Kevin lol).

He went 22 years of his life as a virgin and when he became famous he had all the opportunity to lose his virginity to some fangirl (who would probably be deranged and want to get pregnant) he'd probably forget, but he stayed a virgin until he got married to his lovely wife What's-her-face (I forgot her name, seriously).

Another example of celebrity abstinence is Korean boy band Big Bang's lead singer (and my wishful thinking hubby), Taeyang.

(Dang, I guess I'm forced to say credits to newsen.com for the pic)

Aww, Taeyang's such a good, Christian, man (or boy, whatever). He carries a bible with him almost everywhere, probably tries to go to church every Sunday, he's abstinent (I don't know why I'm laughing while I'm typing this). God, there's a few other reasons why he's my wishful thinking hubby (reading Korean Pop Addict's blog inspired me to create these names for my different styles of obsession), but I'll get into that stuff in another post. I'm glad Taeyang is an abstinent celebrity and that makes my respect for him grow alot more, especially because Big Bang is very big in Korea and he has every opportunity to be with some slutty bimbo (sorry, the inner hater is coming out of me) in a cheap motel after a concert.

My point is I'd rather wait to have sex until I'm married (I honestly don't care if my husband's a virgin or not, but if he was that'd be a big plus) and...be with my husband, who I'm going to spend the rest of my life with and know that I love, as opposed to a boyfriend who might dissapear from my life that year and/or don't know for sure that I love him. (Side note: I'm not a fan of 'shacking up' either. Living together takes the surprise out of the, hopefully, eventual marriage to me)

Abstinence is real. Most people don't it, but there are some who do. Abstinent celebritys are faced with alot more temptation than we are and that's why I respect them. The only people who say abstinence isn't obtainable are the ones who either didn't care enough to keep it or who didn't have enough willpower. To the people who do plan on being abstinent, kudos to you and pass the word about abstinence on to your children in their early years (10-15). Trust me, they'll listen. The words that impacted me the most were said by my mom: 'I really don't want you to have sex before you're married, but if you do, I'd be really dissapointed in you if you get pregnant'. I wasn't one of those kids who wanted to do what my parents didn't like me to do on purpose and I wasn't even going to risk getting pregnant by having pre-marital sex. And, the last thing I wanted my mom to feel was dissapointed in me, so I carved my decision in stone: I was going to be abstinent. I hope some learn form this post and if you did, I'm glad I could help.
